Suddenly, Thomas went silent. Was this really a good idea? His feet ached to retrace their steps back out the entrance. As soon as the aggravating, logic-provoking thoughts overtook his mind, a dainty hand that was most definitely not Eli’s landed lightly on his shoulder. Thomas froze. A violent flurry of questions entered his mind, each one right after the other.
Who is this? Did I done something wrong? Is the bouncer coming to take me away? What do they want with me? Was this illegal bar already getting busted? The possibilities of worst case scenarios piled themselves on top of each other and then it stopped. The thoughts, the noise, even his own breathing, as a flash of black swept by and the pressure disappeared on his shoulder. The band of jazz musicians started up again and all eyes were glued on the center of the hidden bar.
Thomas’ jaw dropped slightly, unnoticeable, as catcalls and wolf whistles were howled at the female smirking within. She was stunning, pale skin exposed and gleaming in the dim light, the aura of a flapper was screaming from her form. The black slip dress swished, tassels fluttering. It was so very immodest but he couldn’t help but stare. She lavished in the attention, the music singing as her body danced. Wild movements looked graceful and swinging arms added to the effect of her flirtatious trap.
No one could stay quiet and watch, they cheered her on, dirty jokes drunk on their tongue. The song and her performance was only for a couple minutes but it felt timeless to Thomas. He just wanted her, at least for one night. She waved her glove-clad fingers daintily in his direction and he couldn’t help but soar with ecstasy. Was that for me? The cheers around him shook that desire, voices full of excitement and protests that the wave was for this or that guy.
Thomas felt deflated but the sensuality of her gaze made him look at her again, heart stuck in his throat. The wave was definitely for him then... Why? Should I go over to her? What if I’m wrong about her interest in me? Should I take this possibly risque risk…?
